If past experiences still feel present, through intrusive thoughts, emotional overwhelm, or a sense of being “stuck”, trauma-focused therapy can help your brain and body process what hasn’t yet been resolved.

EMDR and the Flash Technique are approaches that support this process in a structured, paced and supported way.

Trauma Therapy That Helps You Move Forward

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy used to support the processing of traumatic or distressing experiences.

Rather than repeatedly talking through the details of what happened, EMDR helps the brain reprocess memories so they become less overwhelming and more integrated over time.

This can lead to:

  • Reduced emotional intensity linked to past experiences

  • Less intrusive thoughts or memories

  • Shifts in negative beliefs about yourself

  • Increased sense of stability and control

The Flash Technique is a gentler trauma-processing approach that can be used when memories feel too overwhelming to engage with directly.

It allows the brain to begin processing distressing material without needing to focus on it in detail, which can feel more manageable for many people.

This can be particularly helpful if:

  • You feel easily overwhelmed when thinking about past experiences

  • You’re unsure about starting trauma work

  • You want a more gradual entry into processing

My Approach

As an Occupational Therapist with a psychotherapeutic approach, my work focuses on understanding how trauma is impacting your day-to-day life—not just the memory itself.

This includes exploring:

  • How your nervous system responds to stress and threat

  • The environments and situations that feel safe or difficult

  • The impact on your roles, routines and relationships

  • The meaning you’ve made from your experiences

EMDR and Flash are used within this wider context, allowing the work to feel more integrated, relevant and sustainable.

How Sessions Work

Trauma therapy is paced carefully and collaboratively.

We begin by:

  • Building safety and stability

  • Understanding your experiences and goals

  • Developing strategies to support emotional regulation

When appropriate, we may move into EMDR or Flash processing, always at a pace that feels manageable.

You are not expected to revisit anything before you feel ready.
